Three weeks later, on the last day of school before Christmas break, weadded our last bit of money and, in total, we'd raised $131, entirelyfrom the kid's piggy banks or by doing jobs. We then picked which animals we wanted to donate and used math to seeif we had enough. In the end, wepicked rabbits ($60), bees ($40),and geese ($60). [I kicked in to make upthe difference.]It was such a sweet, wonderful experience. Kids are fantasticallygenerous. I think the book was an important component ofour success based on how many times kids mentioned Beatrice!

Polliwog on Safari writes up Beatrice's Goat, a book about Beatrice, a young girl whose life improved dramatically when her family received a goat from Heifer International. "Reading Beatrice's Goat with your children will open their eyes to the broader world and hopefully give them a sense that they can make a difference in it. One person can buy one goat that changes an entire family's lives for the better."

I Heart Daily featured Heifer in this blog post, 3 Gifts for Dad, That Give Back. "While normally gifting your dad a trio of goats might result in a permanent grounding, when you buy them for a poverty-stricken community, all you’ll get is a thumbs-up."

My own specialty is women globally and I do a lot of work on women in poor countries. This book focuses on a woman who is very poor. She is in a South Asian country and she picks tea leaves for a living. Her daughter is either too young to go to school or they cannot afford to send her to school, so the daughter often comes along to the plantation. But one day the mother gets very sick and she can no longer pick tea. The daughter is worried that there is no money to pay for the doctor, she really despairs, and ultimately ends up dragging this enormous tea basket to the plantation to try and do the work herself. The overseer is really an angry, mean boss, and he just laughs at her.

This book has the largest impact on my life personally as it just confirmed for me all the things that I believe. One of my favorite authors Paulo Coelho writes in such an engaging way encouraging you more with every turn of the page. The story talks about the importance of the universe and the role it plays in our life which has been a long-standing belief of mine. The message in this book is as powerful as it is digestible, a must-read. Also, I find it incredibly easy to read which is why I always recommend this book first, it makes getting in the habit of reading easy.Explore this bookThe AlchemistByPaulo Coelho,

Every few decades a book is published that changes the lives of its readers forever. This is such a book - a beautiful parable about learning to listen to your heart, read the omens strewn along life's path and, above all, follow your dreams.

The authors of this book apply insights from their previous book, "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People", to the daily problems of people who must struggle with the demands of work and home life. Rather than focusing on time and change, the book emphasizes relationships and results.ExploreSimilar booksBook lists with this bookWhy do people like this book?TopicsHoneyExecutionNew York StateTime managementAuthorsGenresComing soon...PreviewBookshop.orgAmazonShow more booksSomething went wrong :(
